Default Runes questions

I have about 750 hours, so I am not new. But in terms of runes, and their color...

How can one really be sure they are getting a superior rune from a gold piece of armor?

I have unlocked quite a few gold armors and have only gotten 2 Superior runes from them. So when people are spamming they want to buy unided superior runes is there a secret to getting a superior rune evry time, or is it luck?

I also unlocked a few purple this morning and got all minors from them. But they were dropped from lower level monsters and I opened them with a lower level character.

So does monster drop or character level have something to do with possibility/probailty of unlocking a superior rune?

The other runes I unlocked I did unlock with a char with 500K + exp, but still got majors "only" from the gold garments. So am not sure character level matters.

So long question short... is it hit or miss on whether or not you get a superior rune from a gold armor, or is there some sort of "secret". Or is there a way to tell whether or not it is a superior rune before iding/unlocking it?

I'm not sure about this but I find - when I first unlocked something, I have less chance of sucessfully salvaging it that I would if I'd have already unlocked it.

If this is true - people may want to purchase un'id' gold items because they know they might not sucessfully unlock it this time, with the hope that they will the 2nd time?

So if I have unlocked a major, then it is more likely I will now get a superior instead? Sort of in a ladder form, you have to unlock the minors, then the majors, then the superiors?

not sure whether you need to have unlocked the predecessor - but you could be right, I however unlocked the Major Ranger Expertise before the Minor Version. All i'm saying is if i've already unlocked a particular upgrade I'm more likely to sucessfully salvage it. I can't speak for others tho.

When you expert salvage unidentified armor which contains a rune you receive an unidentified rune (and the game was patched some time back so that you can no longer fail to salvage a rune from dropped armor). The salvaged rune's profession is displayed and minor/major/superior is obvious from the graphic. So if someone is asking to buy an unidentified superior rune they want exactly that and not unidentified armor.

It is hit-or-miss as to whether you will get a superior rune from gold armor, but at least you'll now get at least a major (gold armor is major or superior, purple armor is minor or major, cyan armor is minor). And you can certainly find a superior rune without finding a minor/major of the same type first since the minor->major->superior progression only applies when using faction to unlock.

My understanding is once you id it, it becomes "unlocked", then you need to use the expert salvage key to get the rune iyself. Now it used to be that the salvage priocess was iffy. But I have to say that lately I have had a very high salvage rate. I used to ID all my runes in the beginning, but I have ided most of the minors and many of the majors, so I save my armor now. But I had a lot of unslavaged one kicking around, and whenthe prices started dropping I salvaged them, I think I have NOT gotten a rune once in like the last 30 salvages.

Maybe a better question is this. If you buy an unsalvaged rune that has already been identified, and you salvage it...does that mean you unlock it as well, or just have the rune?

Because honestly, buying an ided rune for the prices people want is crazy if you can't unlock it yourself, you can buy a named and salvaged one from a trader for peanuts. Unless it is a Monk superior (only lately due to post on solo monk build), a superior vig or a superior absorb, most superiors are less than 500 gold. I do know buying them DOES NOT unlock them for PvP.

I just know I still have 4-5 gold armors in my storage that are not identified, and I don't want to sell them to someone claiming they are superior, when they very well might not be. I also do not want to have someone tell me they aren't worth anything and try to get them for nothing either.

I seem to find that a lot of it has to do with the area that you find the runes. I have gotten serveral gold armor drops from weaker 12 to 15 level mobs, and only got major runes from them. But when I get gold drops from level 20 to 24 They have all been Supiors.

As for unided superior runes, you don't have to id your gold armor then salvage it. You can first savlage it and then id it. After you salvage it, you will know whether it's a sup rune or not b/c it looks different. Plus you will also know the class of the rune as well.

Ahhh. THAT is the answer I was looking for. I was doing it backwards (sorta) IDing first and salvaging after. Maybe that is why I have a decent success rate at getting the rune and not a pile of ingots?

Well like I say, I have unlocked most of the runes in the game, am simply looking to sell some off now for a little gold.

Thanx, gonna go see what I get now I guess.

5 gold armors yeilded one superior and four major (not great)

Well I have about a 80% chance at getting runes from armor I find. I usually find purple armor and first I identify it then EXPERT SALVAGE kit it for the rune. Yesterday I found 2 pieces of purple armor and 1 blue weapon. The weapon when I identified it said I unlocked a war hammer grip of something or another... it salvaged into 3 steel ingots. The armor I found though, I got two runes from... Its luck more than anything else. I have yet to find gold armor...

The devs fixed it so that you will always get runes from dropped armors. It's in one of the updates.
